WCPSS Preschool Services

The Wake County Public School System provides preschool services for eligible children through our Title I Pre-Kindergarten Program and our Preschool Special Education Services.

The Title I Pre-Kindergarten Program is designed to provide a child-centered, developmentally appropriate experience for four-year-old children in need of academic support. The program stresses an environment that motivates learning through exploration and discovery. The goal of the program is to prepare children to enter kindergarten ready to learn and succeed.

Preschool Special Education Services are designed  for children ages 3 to 5 with disabilities and in need of specially designed instruction. The goal of the program is to provide the support these children need at an early age, so by the time they enter kindergarten, they have the support, services and skills they need to be successful.

Enterprise Preschool ProgramsProject Enlightenment, Poe Elementary and Athens Drive High School offer programs for preschool age children.

Choice Student Assignment Plan – Preschool to Kindergarten

All children entering kindergarten will need to participate in the Choice Selection Process to choose a school assignment for the 2012-13 school year. This includes children served by WCPSS in a preschool program.

Children currently enrolled in a preschool program at a Wake County school will complete the enrollment process at their current school. Children served in the community by itinerant teachers, speech therapists or by Project Enlightenment will need to enroll at their closest school.

Parents of preschool children with IEPs will work with their teacher and the IEP Team to determine if their child will need a local or regional program.
